  • The “Lost Core” technology opens up diverse opportunities. With this technology certain parts of the component to be cast are recessed with a salt core which is then rinsed out again. This makes it possible for permanent mold cast and sand cast components to be replaced and at the same time the full benefits of die casting such as material savings, shorter cycle times and reduced post-processing can be reaped. “Lost Core” also enables the development of completely new components.

First, special thanks to Advance Auto for hooking me up with the bearing for this 2004 Ford Explorer. Here’s some useful info from them.

This was probably one of the most difficult wheel bearing jobs I’ve ever done. I’ve never had one that wouldn’t come out with a press. I suppose there’s a first time for everything.

Still, I believe this video contains a wealth of information on wheel bearing replacement. By default, it also contains plenty of information on what to do when things go wrong. Either way, I hope you find this information useful, and perhaps entertaining.
