    This casting machine was designed at built by T R I Transmission and Bearing Corporation. It is a double faceplate horizontal centrifugal caster. It is used to cast the babbitt onto the bores of large steel bearing shells.

    The bearing is loaded vertically and then rotates into a horizontal orientation inside the containment area.

    Torches preheat the bearing steel as it spins slowly.

    Meanwhile, virgin Babbitt is melted in the kettle. When the shell of the bearing reaches the proper temperature, the containment cover closes, the rotational speed is increased and the kettle is lifted with the help of an overhead crane. The Babbitt is poured through a heated tube into the bearing center.

    Centrifugal forces put a uniform pressure on the molten babbitt allowing for a dense and consistent material.

    Water is sprayed onto the outside of the bearing shell to accelerate the cooling of the steel.

    When the bearing has cooled, the cover lifts and the bearing rotates into the vertical position where it can be easily unloaded.

    T R I can centrifugally cast bearings up to 20,000 pounds with diameters up to 70 inches.
