  • Investment casting process by artist George Mummert – Lancaster PA. Cast of Otto Graham for artist Tony Falcone of Connecticut.

In this clip a slurry of ceramic is coated over the entire wax pattern (portrait bust) followed by a stucco of zirconia and silica sand in various grain sizes to build up thickness. When approx 10 to 15 coats are applied and when the mold is dry the mold will be fired. During the firing process the wax is vacated from the mold leaving a hollow cavity to pour the bronze. The wax is not actually lost… it is reclaimed and reused.
