I need to know how to fix a Haier air conditioner. It’s not running too hot.
It is an air conditioner. Unless it is a heat pump, too, that’s the very definition of an air conditioner.
It is an AC, and it is not conditioning the air.
Check the breaker. If that got flipped by an overload, it won’t go.
It is going, it just is not cooling.
See if your AC has a fan only mode. If it is in fan only mode, it’ll circulate the air but not actually cool.
That’s about like checking to make sure the thermostat is actually set to cool, and someone else did not turn the temperature back up.
You’d be surprised how many HVAC calls are for exactly that. In some cases, it is because the unit is not even on.
That’s the first thing I checked, because it is the easiest thing to check.
Check the air conditioner itself. If it is icing up, you’ve got it going too strong.
It is hardly making even any condensate on the coils.
If the condensate is at one particular spot, you probably have a coolant leak – and no coolant means it is just circulating the air.
That’s equivalent to fan on mode though I do not want it to be.
If the entire thing has condensate, you may have a couple of refrigerant leaks or problems with the condensate drainage. You’ll want to clean that drain just to prevent things from rusting through.
If it rusted through, that explains the leaks.
If the unit is just dirty, you can clean it.
I remember my Dad blasting the AC with water, to try to clean it.
That’s a lazy way to do it, and you risk things rusting unless you live in Texas in the summer. There are actually AC coil cleaners you can buy.
That’s someone I’d rather just rent.
HVAC repair guys can do that as part of their maintenance agreement, along with changing out the filters. If the motors are straining but not cooling things down much, the air filters may need to be replaced.
I cannot even find them.
If they are the same shade of gray as the AC unit’s body, you know they need to be replaced.
What else could it be?
Your thermostat might be broken, or someone in your family has been pranking the Nest programmable thermostat. Fortunately, I do not think we live somewhere where the authorities could turn off the AC to save power in a brown out yet.
I’ll see what I can clean and keep the kids away from the controller.
Best case scenario, the kids pretended that it was a key pad for their secret lair, and the worst case is someone hacked it.
No, because anyone that good will have sent me an email by now, that the house will be a hundred unless I send money.
