    Birch 650 Ton Cold Chamber die casting machine. This video is a Used Birch Model 600-A, 600 ton capacity, Cold Chamber Aluminum High Pressure Die Casting Machine, the machine was new in 2007. What is High Pressure Die casting (HPDC)? In simplest terms it is a metal casting process that is accomplished by injecting liquid metal under high pressure into a die (mold) cavity. The mold cavity is created using two hardened tool steel sections which have been machined into the net shape of the desired part(s). Most parts are made from non-ferrous metals, specifically zinc, copper, aluminium, magnesium, lead, pewter and tin based alloys. Depending on the type of metal being cast, a hot or cold chamber machine is used. Casting equipment and the dies represent large capital expenditure and this tends to limit the process to high volume production. The manufacture of parts is relatively simple, involving only four main steps, which keeps the incremental cost per item low. It is especially suited for a large quantity of small to medium sized castings, which is why die casting produces more castings than any other casting process. Parts feature a very good surface finish (by casting standards), near net shape and dimensional consistency.

    This machine is equipped with C-Frame shot end with Hydraulic shot position adjustment with three stage cartridge valve shot system and multiplier intensification system with Piston Bottle hydraulic supply; shot positions of center, -6 Inch and -9″ below center shot positions. Other features include: Hydraulic Center Platen Ejection and Mechanical Bumper Plate Ejection System, Allen Bradley SLC 5/03 Controls, Technical Specifications: 54 inch vertical x 51 inches horizontal T-Slotted fixed die mounting platen; 51 inches vertical x 51 Inch horizontal T-Slotted moving die mounting platen; with 29.75 x 29.75 inches of clearances between tie bars; 12 inches 36 inches Die Thickness with 18 – 12 inches of Die Stroke. Additional features include: Automatic Lubrication System, Central Electric Powered Motorized Die Height Adjustment, Air Safety Ratchet Device, Manual operator & Helper side safety doors.
