Here is an easy, quick, and safe way to remove the A/C vents from a Kia Forte without damaging the dash or vents.
The Arizona Vortex Workshop was hosted by Rescue Response Gear and The Rigging Lab. CMC Rescue taught the 3 day workshop and was well attended.
The Side A or SA Frame is probably the safest manner in which to set up an artificial high directional using the Arizona Vortex. Very accommodating to properly setting the resultant. Normally, there is a clear line of sight between the two forces (guying lines) that hold the Vortex head in place. One side is consider the tension force and the other is the compression force. At least one of this forces needs to be a mechanical advantage system as the pulley system. The other could be a single line or another mechanical advantage pulley system (allowing for small modifications). The two Vortex legs are then put into compression with the two guy systems in place. When done properly, this system will not budge. Though not shown is this video, a small mechanical advantage (MA) can be used to vector back-tie or guy line into a better position.
The CMC MPD is used exclusively as the main line progress capture during the raise and through the lowering system. The CMC MPD is used in tandem during raised and lowering systems. In this footage, the rescuer is being lowered through the MPDs and managing a CMC Rescue Stretcher/Litter. When the bottom is reached, the mechanical advantage pulley system is rigged and the raise begins. The belay side (CMC MPD) remains the same.
High directionals can decrease the difficulty associated with negotiating the edge. Care must be taken to assure that the directional is rigged correctly and will support the weight of the system.
